Hello! My name is Bella Worsham and I am studying as a Music (B.A) at the University of Central Florida as a percussionist. My goal in the professional world is to educate the next generation of aspiring percussionists.
I couldn’t imagine my life without percussion, and playing is very therapeutic for me both mentally and physically. As an infant, I underwent a stroke that negatively affected the dexterity of the left side of my body. Specifically in the hands, my left hand’s dexterity (especially in the fingers) is minimal. But since I started playing percussion, my strength has continued to pass limits and grow even stronger. I find it so amazing that something as beautiful as music can help overcome challenges such as my own.
Even though I didnt start playing percussion until high school, I’ve always had a love for musical instruments. As a military brat, I got the absolute pleasure of being able to live in Okinawa, Japan. There, I learned how to play the ukulele, and most notably the sanshin, an instrument native to the land. My love for musical instruments blossomed there, and eventually when I moved back to the United States, I knew I wanted to be a musician.
Recently, I have been marching in the UCF Marching Knights on the Cymbal line and I am the percussionist for the UCF Percussion and Steel Drum Ensemble. I look forward to what the future has in store for me!
